How We Started
The idea for Descendants of Grand Bassa (DOGB) was conceived by Glendy Jane Junius after witnessing Ghana’s “Year of Return,” followed by Liberia’s own version, “Land of Return,” celebrating 200 years of existence. Most recently, in May 2024, Liberians made a pilgrimage to Barbados. On May 9, 2024, Glendy posted a message on her Facebook page saying, “Bassa People, can we copy the Liberians’ RETURN TO Barbados and return to Grand Bassa County in 2025?”
Later that day, she reached out to a few like-minded individuals who share the same love, passion, and enthusiasm for Grand Bassa, and here we are today.
The initial idea was to return to Grand Bassa in 2026 with a large contingent of Grand Bassa descendants and bring revenue to our beloved county. However, the focus soon shifted to undertaking projects that would benefit the people living in Grand Bassa County. It is our hope that by the time we return to Grand Bassa in 2026, we will have completed several meaningful projects.

Ongoing Projects

Today, we are proud to announce that DOGB received official authorization on February 11, 2025, from Acting Superintendent Hon. James W. Duen and County Officials to construct a new Welcome to Grand Bassa billboard, replacing the one that once stood as a symbol of our county’s hospitality but was sadly destroyed.
